Volleyball Enters NCAA Tournament Ranked 10th

The Wisconsin volleyball team enters the NCAA tournament ranked 10th in the CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Coaches Top 25 poll released today.
Wisconsin (24-6) will host first and second-round matches of the 2006 NCAA Championship in the UW Field House this weekend. The Badgers take on Notre Dame (18-13) in first-round action on Friday at 7 p.m. Iowa State (20-10) will play UW-Milwaukee (24-5) in the other first-round match on Friday at 5 p.m.
First-round winners will play in the second-round match on Saturday at 7 p.m. The second-round winner will advance to the NCAA Regional in Austin, Texas, on Dec. 8-9.
Nebraska (27-1) maintains the top spot in the coaches' poll, picking up 54 of 60 first-place votes. Stanford (25-3) moved up one spot to second, picking up the remaining six first-place votes. Washington (25-4) fell one spot to third after losing to Stanford while UCLA (29-3) remains in fourth. Penn State (29-2) rounds out the top five for the third week in a row.
Of the teams competing in the UW Field House this weekend, only Iowa State receives votes in the poll.
Wisconsin, which earned the No. 10 seed in the NCAA tournament, is hosting first and second-round action for the third straight year. The Badgers are making their 15th overall and 11th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance in 2006. The UW is 26-14 in 14 appearances in the championship and has advanced to the NCAA Regional finals (Elite Eight) the last two seasons.
Wisconsin is happy to be hosting championship play in the UW Field House where it is 19-2 in the NCAA tournament.
