Anderson is Big Ten Player of the Week
December 18, 2006 | Women's Basketball
Wisconsin has its second Big Ten Player of the Week of the season. Jolene Anderson had a pair of 20-point games this past week as Wisconsin fell on the road to UW-Green Bay, 70-66, but bounced back at home in an 86-66 win over Harvard.
The former 2005 Big Ten Freshman of the Year tallied her 14th career double-double with a team-high 21 points and 13 rebounds while adding five assists at UW-Green Bay on Dec. 13. In the team's 20-point victory over Harvard on Dec. 15, Anderson finished with 22 points, six boards, four assists and three steals. She was 8-of-11 (.727) from the field including a 3-of-6 mark from beyond the arc.
On the week, the Badger junior was 16-of-26 shooting (.615), averaging 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals.
This is Anderson's first Player of the Week honor of her career and just the fourth time the Badgers have had two different players earn player of the week honors in the same year. Junior guard Janese Banks earned her first honor, and Wisconsin's first POW honor since 2002, in the first week of the season on Nov. 13. The last pair to be named in the same year were Jessie Stomski on Nov. 21, 1999, and Tamara Moore on Jan. 17, 2000.
UW senior Alando Tucker was also named Big Ten Player of the Week for this week (Dec. 18). This is the first time a Wisconsin men's and women's basketball player achieved the honor in the same week.
