Johnson, Eruzione To Fundraise for Children's Hospital
February 04, 2006 | Women's Hockey
Wisconsin women's hockey head coach Mark Johnson along with his wife Leslie and Friends of the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Inc. are scheduled to host an evening gala to benefit the new American Family Children's Hospital, Saturday at the Monona Terrace. Johnson's teammate and captain of the gold medal-winning 1980 'Miracle on Ice' hockey team, Mike Eruzione will also be speak at the event titled, 'Go For the Gold'.
Planned to open in 2007, UW Hospitals and Clinics will construct a $78 million world-class children's hospital in Madison solely dedicated to the care and treatment of children and their families. Adjacent to the current UW Hospital, $37 million will come from hospital bonding with the balance expected to come from private philanthropy. Including a $10 million lead gift from American Family Insurance, $21.3 million has been received from donors. An additional $19.7 million is still needed. The funds generated from this event will support this capital campaign and will help build the new hospital. For more information, please visit www.nofinergift.org.
Current space challenges limit the ability to create an environment most conducive to healing of a child. The new hospital will incorporate family lounges and kitchens; play and classrooms; a family resource center and sibling play area.
This facility will support the skill of the physicians, nurses and staff and will maximize the impact of the University's advanced medical research. American Family Children's Hospital will support full integration of clinical care, academic programs and research initiatives to produce a leading edge facility not found elsewhere in the region.
