Bauer Earns Player of the Week Honors
March 17, 2006 | Women's Hockey
Sara Bauer scored eight points in the semifinal and championship games of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament. The MVP of the tournament, Bauer was also selected by USCHO.com as the offensive national player of the week. This is the third weekly national honor of the season for Bauer.
Bauer, a native of St. Catharines, Ontario, helped lead the Badgers to their first conference tournament title. In doing so, Wisconsin also became just the third team to claim a title in seven seasons. With a goal and four assists against St. Cloud State in the semifinal game Bauer set a season-high mark and tied her career high for points in a game.
Her eight points kept her climbing on the UW all-time scorers list. In the third position with 144 points, she is 34 points from owning the top spot. She is also one of three finalists still in the running for the Patty Kazmaier, national player of the year award.
Bauer and the two-seeded Badgers (33-4-1) enter the NCAA postseason Saturday when they host Mercyhurst (23-7-6) at the Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton, Wis. It is the first NCAA postseason event the team has hosted and is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for youth, students and senior citizens. All seating is general admission. Parking is free in the lot at the arena. To reserve your tickets call the ticket office at 1-800-GO BADGERS or by walking up to the UW Ticket Office at Kellner Hall, 1440 Monroe Street in Madison.
The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the Frozen Four and a semifinal game vs. the winner of Saturday's No. 3 St. Lawrence-No. 6 Minnesota Duluth match-up. Other regional quarterfinal action this weekend will take place Friday with No. 1 New Hampshire hosting No. 8 Harvard and No. 4 Minnesota hosting No. 5 Princeton.
Live stats will be available for the UW-Mercyhurst game at uwbadgers.com as well as a live audio web cast by USCHO.com.
