Badgers in Ninth at Big Ten Championships

Led by sophomore Katie Elliott, the Wisconsin women's golf team sits in ninth place at 613 following the first two rounds of the Big Ten Championships Friday on Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.
The Badgers matched their second lowest 18-hole score of the season with a 300 in the afternoon round to move within eighth strokes of eighth-place Penn State.
Elliott (Madison, Wis.) carded Wisconsin's best round of the day, a 72, in the second round. She ended the day tied for 10th place at 4-over 148. Elliott has posted UW's top finish at all four tournaments this spring.
Senior Lindsay McMillan (Calgary, Alberta) finished four shots behind Elliott in a 24th-place tie. McMillan, who took 25th at the 2005 Big Ten Championships, shot twin rounds of 76 in her 124th and 125th career rounds as a Badger.
Freshman Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) rebounded from an opening round 81 to tie her personal best 18-hole score at 75. Alvarez finished the day tied for 41st place at 156. Fellow freshman Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) is tied for 45th place one shot behind Alvarez.
Senior Jackie Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.) fired rounds of 81 and 78 to close out the day tied for 54th place.
Junior Melissa Martin (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) rounded out the UW effort in 65th place at 169.
Purdue leads the tournament at 10-over 586, four shots clear of Ohio State. Northwestern's Alice Kim holds the 36-hole individual lead at 4-under 140.
The third round of the Big Ten Championships takes place Saturday at the IU Golf Course. The final round will be played on Sunday. Live stats can be found at golfstat.com with round results on both bigten.org and uwbadgers.com.
