Wisconsin Steady in Ninth at Big Ten Championships

The Wisconsin women's golf team battled through wet conditions Saturday at Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind., to shoot a 314 and maintain ninth place after three rounds of the 2006 Big Ten Championships.
The Badgers will enter Sunday's final round at 927, nine shots ahead of tenth-place Minnesota and 23 strokes behind eighth-place Penn State.
Sophomore Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.) and senior Lindsay McMillan (Calgary, Alberta) paced UW with 77s on Saturday. Elliott is tied for 13th place overall at 225 through 54 holes while McMillan is tied for 26th place at 229.
Freshman Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) fired an 80 in the third round to end the day tied for 47th place at 236. Senior Jackie Obermueller is four shots behind Alvarez in 55th place after an 81 on Saturday.
Jeana Dahl, a freshman from Fargo, N.D., sits tied for 57th place at 243, six shots ahead of junior Melissa Martin (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), who finished the day in a 63rd-place tie.
Purdue continues to lead the tournament at 881, two shots better than Michigan State. Northwestern's Alice Kim holds the individual lead at 2-under 214.
The final round of the Big Ten Championships takes place Sunday at the IU Golf Course. Play is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live stats can be found at golfstat.com with round results on both bigten.org and uwbadgers.com.
