UW Finishes Ninth at Big Ten Championships

With a 325 in Sunday's final round, the Wisconsin women's golf team finished in ninth place at the 2006 Big Ten Championships on the Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.
The Badgers ended the tournament at 1,252, the fifth-best 72-hole team score in school history. UW finished six shots ahead of tenth-place Illinois.
Sophomore Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.) led the way for Wisconsin with a 22nd-place tie, her best career finish at the Big Ten Championships. Elliott shot an 82 on Sunday to close out the weekend at 307. Last season, Elliott finished tied for 28th at the Big Ten Championships.
Senior Lindsay McMillan (Calgary, Alberta) posted Wisconsin 's best score in the final round with an 80. McMillan finished tied for 28th place at 309, the best score at a 72-hole event in her career.
Freshman Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) recorded the best finish of her career with a 47th-place tie. Alvarez shot an 82 on Sunday to finish the weekend at 318.
Senior Jackie Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.) fired her third 81 of the weekend on Sunday. Obermueller finished in a tie for 52nd place at 321.
Freshman Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) tied for 57th place following an 82 on Sunday. Dahl ended the weekend at 325.
Junior Melissa Martin (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) closed out the UW effort with an 85 in the final round. Martin finished in 63rd place at 334.
Purdue claimed it second Big Ten title in school history and first since 2000 with a 72-hole score of 1,179. Ohio State fell six strokes shy of claiming its fifth straight Big Ten championship.
Northwestern's Alice Kim held on to win the individual title at 3-over 291, one shot ahead of a three-way tie for second place. Kim is the first Wildcat to claim the individual crown at the Big Ten Championships.
