August 12, 2006 | Women's Golf
Amateur golfers and long drivers should take notice that qualifying for the Pinnacle Exceptional Driver Championship will be at University Ridge Golf Course on Saturday, August 26. This is the second year the Ridge has been one of 128 local locations nationwide that not only will determine the best driver in the area, but will send a qualifier for the PEDC finals Nov. 8-11 in Laughlin, Nevada. The PEDC Champion earns $50,000 and a Honda S2000 Roadster.
The entry fee is $20 and no pre-registration is required. Qualifying for amateur men and women golfers begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. on Aug. 26. Each participant will receive a six-pack of Pinnacle Exception golf balls and a Pinnacle golf cap.
'We're excited to be part of the first-phase qualifying for this exciting national competition,' said Mike Urben, general manager at University Ridge Golf Course. 'We're excited a golfer from our area will make it to the PEDC National finals this fall. We have a big golfing community here in Madison; we are very excited to have a chance to send someone to the big show. '
The contest measures distance and accuracy in driving. Golfers will hit five drives per entry. A participant who hits all five drives in the grid will receive a bonus ball to try and improve his or her score. In the event of a tie, a sudden death playoff will be invoked to determine the final candidate for the national championship.
University Ridge is located at 9002 Country Road PD, Verona, Wis., 53593. The golf shop is (608) 845-7700. More information may be obtained online at www.longdrivers.com or www.pinnaclegolf.com.
