
Badgers Currently in Fourth Place at Badger Invitational

Eleven teams battled weather conditions that include a steady, 11-hour rain, temperatures in the low 50s, and winds 10-15 mph, but they completed 36 holes of the 54- hole Badger Women's Golf Invitational at the University Ridge in Verona, Wis.
Indiana emerged as the tournamnet leader with a score of 620. Kansas State's Michelle Regan posted a second-round best 71 to lead all individuals with a 146.
Wisconsin is currently in fourth place with a score of 627 after shooting a 311 in the first round and a 316 in the second. Leading the Badgers is Madison, Wis. native Katie Elliot who is currently tied for third place as she shot a 74 in the first round and followed with a 77 in the afternoon.
Sophomores Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) and Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) are currently tied for 16th and 18th places, respectively. Dahl improved three strokes from her first-round 80 to shoot a 77 in the afternoon. She birdied the last two holes on the front nine to finish with a first day total of 157.
Making their Badger debuts today were freshmen Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) and Hartland, Wis. native Heather Herrick. Verbeten shot a first-round 80 and a second-round 81 to finish the day with a 161. Herrick, a red-shirt freshmen, came out strong in the first round as she birdied two holes on the front nine. After shooting an 11-over par 83 in the morning she came back with an 81 in the afternoon to finish the day with a 164.
Senior Jill Ries (Middleton, Wis.) competed as an individual and is currently tied for 37th place. Ries finished the first round tied for second place but shot an 89 in the afternoon.
Red-shirt freshmen Ann Marie Sztukowski (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and Kate Wierwill (Verona, Wis.) also competed as individuals. Sztukowski shot a two-over par 76 in the first round and completed the day with a total score of 165. Wierwill shot two-consecutive rounds of 85 and is currently in 55th place.
Freshmen Heidi Hinners and Beth Weinstein also competed as individuals in their first career tournaments today. Hinners (Middleton, Wis.) shot an 87 in the first round and followed up with an 86 in the second.
