Cornell and Koch Complete Ironman
September 13, 2006 | Women's Hockey
Despite cool, windy and rainy conditions, women's hockey assistant coaches Tracey Cornell and Dan Koch both completed the Ironman Wisconsin, held last Sunday in Madison and the surrounding area. The Ironman triathlon requires participants to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles.
Cornell, a 1997 graduate of Cornell University, completed the three events in a time of 12:40:10 to finish 781st overall in a field of 2,439. Cornell was 21st overall among 130 entrants in her age group, including 16th in the marathon in a time of 4:09:41.
Koch, who graduated from Wisconsin in 1991, finished the Ironman in 12:53:09 and was 890th overall. Koch's best event was the bike ride, in which he covered the 112-mile course in 6:09:55 to rank in the top 20 percent of the entire field. Koch finished the Ironman 184th among 411 participants in his age group.
All three Wisconsin women's hockey coaches have now finished an Ironman. Head coach Mark Johnson completed the Ironman Wisconsin in 2005.
