
Badgers Finish Eighth in East Lansing

One week after winning the Badger Invitational, junior Katie Elliott shot a three-over par 75 to lead the UW women's golf team to an eighth place finish at the Lady Northern Invitational played at Fort Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.
The Badgers finished the tournament with a 32-over par 931 (307-304-320). Michigan State, the host, won its second straight Lady Northern Invitational with a total team score of 889.
Elliott shot a 74 in the first round, and followed with two consecutive rounds of 75 to finish with a total score 224 and ninth place tie. The Madison, Wis., native finished just nine strokes behind Kent State's Tara Delaney who shot a one-under par 215 to win the tournament.
Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) finished tied for 25th place with a 16-over par 232 (77-74-81). Sophomore Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) finished with a total score of 238 (76-79-83) en route to a 44th place tie.
Freshmen Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) and Heather Herrick (Hartland, Wis.) both played well in their second tournaments for UW as they finished tied for 48th and 59th place, respectively. Verbeten shot a 23-over par 239 (81-76-82) while Herrick shot a total score of 246 (80-79-87), 30 over par.
Rounding out the scoring for Wisconsin was senior Jill Ries (Middleton, Wis.). Ries had a total score of 250 (88-80-82) on her way to a 66th place finish.
The Badgers have a week off before hitting the links again Oct. 2-3 at the Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence, KS.
