Former Badger Michelle Lilienthal finished third in the 2007 USA Half Marathon Championships held last Sunday in Houston. She earned $4,000 for her finish.
Olympian Elva Dryer of Gunnison, Colo., won the women's championship in 1:11:42, just five seconds up on her Athens Olympics roommate, Katie O'Neill of Milton, Mass. O 'Neill finished second in 1:11.47.
Finishing a surprising third was the 24 year-old Lilienthal, who currently lives in Philadelphia. She shattered her personal best with a 1:12.46 clocking.
"I was pretty much on my own from mile three," said Lilienthal.
Lilienthal, who competed for the Badgers in track and cross country from 2000-05, has qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon. She ran a personal best of 2:35:51 at the Twin Cities Marathon last October.
