Women's Golf Makes Birdies for Charity
October 11, 2007 | Women's Golf
The University of Wisconsin's women's golf office announced today that the team will be assisting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in raising money throughout the 2007-08 golf season.
Pledges will be accepted for each birdie that the team makes at its 12 scheduled tournaments in 2007-08. Last year, the team accumulated 280 birdies throughout the season and the team's goal for this season is 300 birdies. Here's how it works: a pledge of $.25 per birdie would result in a donation of $75. (300 team birdies x $.25 per birdie= $75 total donation)
Individuals interested in making a pledge should contact assistant coach Lori Murphy at lxm@athletics.wisc.edu . A confidential list will be compiled and donors will be updated periodically with birdie results. At the end of the season, donors will be notified how many birdies the team made and where they can send their tax deductible donation.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society raises funds for cures of blood related cancers. In addition to finding a cure for these cancers, the society also funds ways to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
The pledges will be contributed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma's Light the Night Walk on behalf of UW Women's Golf. Assistant Coach Murphy's son was diagnosed with Burkett's Lymphoma at age seven and today is a healthy teenager.
