October 16, 2007 | Women's Hockey
Freshman forward Mallory Deluce was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week after helping the Badgers break the NCAA record for the longest unbeaten streak in Division I women 's hockey history last weekend, the league announced on Tuesday.
Last Saturday, Deluce recorded her first career game-winning goal early in the first period. The London, Ontario native followed that performance with the primary assist on the first goal and the game-tying goal midway through the third period on Sunday.
Deluce is tied for the team lead in points with seven and leads the team with five goals. She also ranks first among the nation's rookies in goals and is tied for first in points with teammate Hilary Knight.
The honor is the first of Deluce's career and the first by a Badger freshman since Meghan Duggan was named WCHA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 5, 2007. Duggan claimed the award five times last season, the most ever by a UW player in a single season.
Deluce and the No. 1 Badgers will return to the ice Oct. 19-20 when they face St. Cloud State at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
