
Badgers on the Road to Michigan

The Wisconsin women's soccer team hits the road this weekend to take on neighboring Big Ten rivals Michigan State and Michigan. The Badgers (5-7-1) face Michigan State on Friday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. in East Lansing, Mich. UW then travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on the Michigan Wolverines. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
The Badgers shut-out non-conference foe Loyola University Chicago at the McClimon Soccer Complex last Thursday. Despite the cold weather, UW defeated the Ramblers, 3-0. Junior Tricia Krombach (Appleton, Wis.) recorded her first multi-goal game, and senior Sheri Ferron (Brookfield, Wis.) tallied her first goal of the season, giving the Badgers a final 3-0 score to end the game.
After 90 minutes of competitive play, Wisconsin was unable to find the back of the net Sunday afternoon in Champaign, Ill. The Fighting Illini topped the Badgers 3-0. Junior Jamie Klages (Coronado, Calif.) tallied three saves and allowed only one goal the entire game until the final 10 minutes of action when Illinois scored two back-to-back goals at the 80th-minute mark and the 82nd-minute mark.
Overall, the Badgers are led in shots (26) by sophomore Krista Liskevych (Encinitas, Calif.) and in points by junior-transfer Krombach (8). On the year, Liskevych has put nine shots-on-goal, while Krombach has put four on-goal, scoring on three of the attempts.
Standing in net for Wisconsin is junior-transfer Klages. Klages has played in 12 of 13 games this season, recording five shutouts. The keeper has a goals-against average of 1.31 and a save percentage of .761.
UW's Friday opponent, Michigan State (5-8-1 overall, 0-6-0 Big Ten), was shutout in both matches last weekend, falling 2-0 to Penn State and 3-0 to Ohio State. The Spartans have yet to win a conference match.
Sophomore Lauren Hill leads the Spartans with five goals and two assists for 12 total points. Senior Maureen Pawlak follows close behind with 11 points from four goals and three assists.
On Sunday, the Badgers head to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on Michigan who is 2-8-3 overall and 0-4-2 in the Big Ten. Michigan fell to Ohio State, 1-0, last Friday and lost to Penn State, 2-0, last Sunday.
The Wolverines are led by freshman Amanda Bowery who has tallied 10 points off four goals and two assists. Bowery has notched 27 shots, 12 of which were on goal. Sarah Banco follows close behind having recorded five points (two goals, one assist).
Michigan's goalkeeper Madison Gates owns a 1.20 goals-against average and a .754 save percentage. The junior has recorded two shutouts this season, recording a 2-7-3 record.
