
UW Ties for Eighth at Final Fall Competition

The Wisconsin women's golf team concluded the fall season Tuesday at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. The Badgers finished in a tie for eighth place at the 20-team competition. The team scored a 935 (320, 308, 307) on the par-72, 5,933-yard Oak Point Golf Club course.
Five Badger golfers competed at the intercollegiate and for the second straight competition, senior Katie Elliott led the way. The Madison native finished ninth out of the 104 competitors with her three-round total of 226 (77, 75, 74). In her 14 rounds of competition this fall, Elliott finished with a team best average of 75.7.
Freshman Carly Werwie (Kenosha, Wis.) and junior Natasha Lopez (Asuncion, Paraguay) both finished in a tie for 38th place with a score of 236. Werwie scored an 82 in the first round and then cut her score down to a 75 in the second round. For the final 18, she shot a 79. Lopez finished with an 80, 78, 78 in the three respective rounds.
Sophomore Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) was just one stroke behind Werwie and Lopez, but finished 46th overall. She shot a three round total of 237 (81, 80, 76). Junior Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) rounded out the Badger competitors with a tie for 65th place and a score of 244 (84, 81, 79).
The Wisconsin women's golf team returns to the course in February for the beginning of its spring competition. The Badgers open up in Peoria, Ariz., against Indiana for the Westbrook Cup. Stay tuned to uwbadgers.com for previews of the 2008 spring season.
