
Elliott Wins Hawkeye Invitational, Badgers Place Second

The Wisconsin women's golf team concluded a successful weekend at the Hawkeye Invitational. Senior Katie Elliott finished first in the individual competition at Iowa City, Iowa, while the Badgers placed second overall. Wisconsin scored a 928 in the 14-team tournament. UT-Chattanooga captured the invitational title on the par-72, 6,202 Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
Elliott, a senior from Madison, Wis., scored a 217 in three rounds and finished one-over par and six strokes ahead of the second place finisher for the invitational individual title. Her score is a new career low and bettered her previous low of 218. This is also Elliott's second invitational title after winning the 2006 Badger Invite. Elliott tallied a 72 in the first round, a 73 in the second and finished the invitational at 72.
Freshman Carly Werwie (Kenosha, Wis.) was the next Badger finisher with her tie for 15th. She tallied a 233 on the day after scoring a 74, 77 and 82 in the three respective rounds. Two strokes behind her was junior Natasha Lopez (Asuncion, Paraguay) with her score of 235 (80-75-80) for a 17th place finish.
Sophomore Kelsey Verbeten also finished in the top 20 golfers. The Green Bay, Wis., native scored a 236 (76-77-83) to finish tied for 18th. Junior Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) came in 26th after scoring 240 (79-79-82).
Sophomore Beth Weinstein (Highland Park, Ill.) rounded out the Badger competitors with her tie for 55th after scoring a 252 (84-83-85).
The Wisconsin women's golf team has a few weekends off before it closes out the fall campaign Oct. 29-30 in Kiawah, S.C., for the E.Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate.
