November 01, 2007 | Women's Golf
The Wisconsin women's golf team closed out the 2007 fall campaign Tuesday at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate. The team participated in five different competitions this fall in preparation for the 2008 spring season.
The Badgers finished at least in the top half or better of each competition this fall. For two consecutive weekends, (Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 6-7) the team placed as runner-up. At the Wolverine Invitational, Wisconsin finished just four strokes behind team champion, Notre Dame.
Senior Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.) led the team during the fall with the team's best 18-hole average of 75.7. She also captured the second individual title of her career, after scoring a career-low 217 during the Hawkeye Invitational. It was her first individual title since winning the 2006 Badger Invite.
Wisconsin also debuted a few new members of the squad during fall competition. Junior transfer Natasha Lopez (Asuncion, Paraguay) competed in all five invitationals and led the Badgers in the standings for two of those. She tied for seventh place at the 2007 Badger Invitational and posted a season best, sixth place finish with a season low score of 227 at the Wolverine Invitational.
Freshman Carly Werwie (Kenosha, Wis.) also competed in three invitationals, but played the Badger Invitational as an individual competitor. The three-time All-State selection from Kenosha Bradford scored a career best 233 at the Hawkeye Invitational for her best finish of the season (tied for 15th).
Sophomore Beth Weinstein (Highland Park, Ill.) broke her career best for three rounds at the Lady Northern Invitational. She shattered her personal best of 242 with a score of 227 on the Penn State Golf Courses.
Wisconsin kicks off the 2008 spring season Feb. 10 in Peoria, Ariz., against Indiana for the Westbrook Cup.
