Head women's golf coach Todd Oehrlein announced today that high school senior Ellie Arkin (Reedsburg, Wis.) has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Wisconsin and play golf for UW beginning in the fall of 2008.
"(Assistant Coach Lori Murphy) and I are extremely excited about having the opportunity to coach Ellie, ' said Oehrlein. 'We first met Ellie at our golf camp during the summer before her freshman year and have watched her continue to develop and improve ever since. She is very athletic and has potential to develop into an excellent college player.
'In addition, she's an outstanding student and was looking for a university with exceptional academic standards. She is passionate about the University of Wisconsin and is truly a complete individual. We look forward to working with her and are fortunate to have her joining our program."
Arkin was named the 2006 Wisconsin PGA Junior Girls Player of the Year and named team MVP and captain in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
In October, she was one of only 12 girls in the country to be named an HP Scholastic Junior All-American, by the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association). In 2006, she was one of 64 girls that qualified for the match play portion of the USGA Junior Girls in North Carolina.
Arkin, who plays on the boy's golf team at Reedsburg High School because there isn't a girls golf team, was the Badger Conference Overall Boys' Champion in 2006 and 2007.
She is currently president of her school's National Honor Society and captained her girl's hockey and tennis teams. Arkin was All-State honorable mention in hockey in 2006 and was named Outstanding Female Athlete for Reedsburg High School in 2006.
