Volleyball Remains Sixth in NCAA RPI
November 07, 2007 | Volleyball
The University of Wisconsin volleyball team (20-3) remains at sixth in the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), released today. The Badgers were also ranked sixth in the initial RPI released Oct. 11.
The RPI is one of the factors that the NCAA women's volleyball committee uses to select teams for the 64-team NCAA tournament. Thirty-one conference champions earn automatic bids to the tournament while 33 teams receive at-large berths.
Defending NCAA Nebraska (21-1) is seeded first in the RPI followed by Stanford (22-2) and Penn State (22-2). Southern California (20-3) and Texas (20-3) are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
In addition to Penn State and Wisconsin, the Big Ten Conference features two other teams ranked in the top 20 of the RPI. Purdue (14-11) comes in at No. 19 while Michigan (18-7) is ranked 20th.
The Badgers host Illinois (15-9), which is ranked 40th in the RPI, tonight at 7 p.m. in the UW Field House. Wisconsin also takes on Michigan on Friday at 7 p.m. before traveling to face Penn State on Nov. 16 in University Park, Pa.
