Wise Guys: Badgers place 19 on academic squad
December 13, 2007 | Football
The Badger football team is clearly intent on emphasizing the 'student ' in student-athlete.
The Big Ten Conference recently released its list of Academic All-Big Ten selections for the fall athletic seasons. The Outback Bowl-bound Badgers hold a prominent spot in that listing.
A Wisconsin football program-record 19 student-athletes earned academic all-conference honors this fall. That is five more than last season's total of 14 which, along with the 2003 team's 14 honorees, was the previous school standard.
Academic All-Big Ten student-athletes must have grade-point averages of at least 3.0, in addition to being letterwinners and at least in their second year of school.
Wisconsin's football Academic All-Big Ten honorees for 2007 are: Jake Bscherer, OL; Gabe Carimi, OL; Andy Crooks, TE; Kirk DeCremer, DL; Allan Evridge, QB; Ryan Flasch, LB; Xavier Harris, WR; Will Hartmann, DB; Casey Hogan, LB; Tyler Holland, RB; Andy Kemp, OL; Ben Landgraf, LB; Sean Lewis, TE; Bill Nagy, OL; Chris Pressley, FB; Ben Strickland, DB; Luke Swan, WR; Mickey Turner, TE; Jay Valai, DB.
