Last Chance to Register for Winter Softball Clinics
December 22, 2007 | Softball
The registration deadline for the five winter softball clinics is quickly approaching. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to work with the coaching staff and team members of the Wisconsin softball team.
The clinics will take place January 4-6, 2008 for softball players between the ages of 7-18, unless otherwise noted.
The pre-registration deadline for the hitting and pitching clinic is Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008. Prices will increase $15 per clinic for all walk-up registrations.
In the Lefty Slappers Clinic, (Jan. 4, 1-4 p.m; $85), players will learn to become a triple threat, as drills to improve bunting, slapping and hitting from the left side of the plate will be taught.
The Hitting Clinic, (Jan. 5, 9 a.m.-noon, $95), includes instruction on a successful fastpitch swing. Participants will practice their hitting skills with tee-work, soft toss and machine drills and will also receive bunting instruction.
In the Defensive Clinic, (Jan. 5, 2-5 p.m; $85), participants will learn the key elements to being successful at your position. The activities in this session will focus on improving mechanics, understanding position-specific responsibilities on the field and throwing mechanics.
The Pitching Clinic I, (Jan. 6, 9-11 a.m; $80) allows pitchers (ages 13 and under) to improve the fundamentals and mechanics of pitching with the use of competitive drills. Pitchers must provide their own catchers. Catchers do not have to pay the registration fee but do have to sign the release form.
In the Pitching Clinic II, (Jan. 6, Noon-2 p.m; $90), pitchers, ages 14 and up, will receive instruction on control, velocity and throwing specific pitches. Pitchers must provide their own catchers. Catchers do not have to pay the registration fee but do have to sign the release form.
All sessions will be held at the Dave McClain Athletic Facility and the adjacent Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center (the Shell). The McClain is a locked facility and entrance by Lot 17 will be permitted only during check-in times (30 minutes prior to start of clinic.)
There will be an Athletic Trainer on site at all times and water will be provided each day. Please bring your own lunch if you are staying all day. Lunch time will be from noon-1 p.m.
Campers must provide their own glove and catchers must also bring their own equipment. It is also recommended to bring your own helmet and bat if you have them. Please put your name on all your belongings.
