December 27, 2007 | Men's Track & Field
The University of Wisconsin men's track and field team is ranked 15th in the indoor preseason poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The USTFCCCA Division I indoor track and field rankings are compiled solely from NCAA descending order lists. The preseason rankings are based on the final descending order list of the previous season and are compiled by Tom Lewis of Missouri.
The Badgers won the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships with 40 points, becoming the first Big Ten Conference school to win a national championship in track and field. Wisconsin graduated 13 seniors from the NCAA championship team, including individual national champion Chris Solinsky as well as All-Americans Joe Detmer, Tim Nelson and Demi Omole.
2007 NCAA runner-up Florida State leads the preseason poll while Washington, Tennessee and Florida, respectively, round out the top-four teams. Wisconsin is the only Big Ten school ranked in the preseason poll.
The 2008 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Badgers open their 2008 season on Jan. 11-12 when they host the Badger Track Classic in the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center (The Shell). Wisconsin will go for a record-setting eighth consecutive Big Ten indoor title on March 1-2 when its hosts the indoor championships.
