Walter Camp team tabs Beckum
December 06, 2007 | Football
Junior Travis Beckum became the first Wisconsin tight end in 45 years to earn first-team All-America honors when the Walter Camp Football Foundation put the Badger standout on its prestigious team Thursday.
The last Badger tight end to earn first-team All-America acclaim was the legendary Pat Richter, who did so in 1962.
Beckum, who leads the nation's tight ends with 960 receiving yards, was officially named to the Walter Camp team when it was revealed live on the Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN Thursday evening. Beckum and some of his family members were in the audience at the show, along with other stars from the 2007 college football season.
The Walter Camp All-America team, now in its 118th year, is the oldest All-America team in the nation. Its members are voted upon by the 119 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.
