
Badgers Host Air Force on Sunday

The University of Wisconsin women's basketball team will meet the U.S. Air Force Academy Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Kohl Center in a game that was postponed from Saturday. Weather conditions in Colorado have prevented the Air Force from traveling to Madison on Friday. All single game and season tickets purchased for Saturday's game will be honored on Sunday.
The game will be live video streamed on uwbadgers.com. The game will be heard locally on WTSO Radio AM 1070 with Mike Heller, and on the Internet at yahoo.com.
Badger Notebook
The Badgers (4-3) put together two-straight wins for the first time this season with a 79-59 win over UW-Milwaukee on a snowy night Tuesday in the
Kohl Center. UW is 2-1 at the Kohl Center and happy to be home after facing five of its first six opponents on the road.
Wisconsin welcomes the Air Force Academy (4-3) today, then closes the non-conference season with UW-Green Bay Tuesday at 7 p.m. in its first Big Ten Network appearance. UW hosts South Dakota State on Friday at 7 p.m. to close the non-conference season.
The UWM game was tied at 32 at the half, and despite a season low 11 points by leading scorer Jolene Anderson, several Badgers stepped up with season highs including senior Janese Banks who had 23 points while making 10-of-20 from the field. Freshman Alyssa Karel set a new career high of nine points, shooting 4-of-6 from the field. And Danielle Ward tied a season high with 10 points.
Anderson's consecutive double-figure scoring mark now stands at 36. She also scored double figures in 35 straight games between 2005-07. The record is 45-straight held by LaTonya Sims (1997-2000). Anderson needs just 123 points to tie the UW women's career scoring record of 1,994 which was set by Barb Franke (1991-96). She ranks fifth behind Theresa Huff (1,879), Robin Threatt (1,901) and Jessie Stomski (1,915).
Coach Lisa Stone
Head coach Lisa Stone is in her fifth season at Wisconsin with a 60-67 (.472) school record. In her 23rd season of coaching, Stone is 435-185 overall (.702 winning percentage). She achieved career victory No. 400 with a win over Idaho State on Nov. 25, 2005, and ranks 22nd in all-time career win percentage among active Division I coaches at the beginning of the 2007-08 season.

NO'ORDINARY JO: Senior guard Jolene Anderson (Port Wing, Wis.), started a new double-digit scoring streak with 24 points vs. S. Mississippi Dec. 1, 2006, and it now stands at 36, 22 games of which are 20+, games including a career-high of 37 points in the season opener at Cleveland State. Anderson has scored in double figures in 96 of her 100 career games. Her career-low was two points against Iowa State on Dec. 5, 2004, the sixth game of her career. Anderson has started in every game as a Badger (100 straight games) and is UW's leading scorer for the fourth-straight season with 22.4 points per game which leads the Big Ten. Anderson has made at least one 3-pointer in 86 of her 100 career games. She is the only UW player to rank among the top 10 in four major career categories: 5th 1,871 points; 9th 677 rebounds; 9th 319 assists; 10th 202 steals.
DAIRYLAND'DUO: Wisconsin's backcourt duo of seniors Jolene Anderson and Janese Banks have accounted for 51.7 percent (36.8 points/game) of Wisconsin's scoring, and 29.1 percent of UW's rebounds. The two also account for 47.9 percent of the team's steals, and 31.5 percent of the assists.
SUGAR'RAE: Sweet Rae Lin D'Alie (Waterford, Wis.) has returned atop the Big Ten leaderboard for assists averaging 5.29 per game. She was just the third point guard in Big Ten history to lead the conference as a freshman with 80 in conference only games for 5.0 per game. D'Alie ranked first in Big Ten overall games with 4.58 per game. She is as the first TRUE starting point guard at Wisconsin since 2000. The 5-3 sophomore (pronounced duh LEE ah) had her first double-double with a career-best 11 assists and 12 points vs. Iowa on Feb. 11, 2007. She owns the UW freshmen record for total assists (165) and ranked second in average (4.58).
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Unlike last year when UW had no seniors, this year their are four including two four-year starters in Jolene Anderson and Janese Banks. Add Danielle Ward, and these three seniors have each played in nearly 100 career games. But 10 of the team members are either sophomores (7) or freshmen (3).
One of the youths had a significant coming out party against Ole Miss 11/23. Lin Zastrow was needed early to spell Danielle Ward who was in foul trouble. The 6-4 freshman not only scored her first collegiate points with 11, she added nine rebounds. At Virginia, 6-1 Tara Steinbauer responded with a then- career-high 10 points. She is leading the team and the Big Ten in field goal shooting hitting 67.9 percent (19-28).
REBOUNDING'PROWESS: UW outrebounded every team but four last season and ranked fourth in the conference averaging 39.8 rebounds per game. That trend has continued outrebounding all but one team (Virginia) including a season-high 58 vs. Ole Miss, to put UW first in the league averaging 45.6 caroms per game.

GAME 7: UW 79, UW-Milwaukee 59
Wisconsin trailed UW-M most of the first half by as much as seven points, but broke open a tied game at the half (32 all) with its defense with a 19-5 run to take control 51-37 with 14 minutes left. Despite Jolene Anderson's season low 11 points, UW had others step up with Janese Banks collecting a season high 23 points, and Danielle Ward adding 10. UW held UW-M to 29 percent shooting in the second half, and outrebounded the smaller Panthers 43-33. The Badgers made hay in the paint outscoring UW-M 50-12.
SCOUTING REPORT FOR AIR FORCE
Air Force returns its top two scorers from a year ago, in a program that finished the 2006-07 campaign with a 6-23 record. Despite losing three starters to graduation, the Falcons return 11 letterwinners to the squad who are waiting to make their mark.
The Falcons own a 4-4 overall record. Three Falcons average double-figures led by enior Alecia Steele is averaging 16.3 ppg and 9.4 rebounds per game. Another senior, Pamela Findlay, is averaging 12.3 ppg, shooting .443 percent from the field (Dana Loveless leads the team shooting .538 percent).
Junior Raimee Beck is averaging 11.1 ppg, and shoots 37.0 percent (19-46) from behind the arc. She is the team's biggest 3-point shooting threat. Freshman guard Brooke Cultra is averaging 9.5 points per game and 6.6 boards a game, which is the second-most on the team behind Steele.
As a team, the Falcons are averaging 64.0 points per game, shooting .393 from the field and .720 from the charity stripe. The squad is averaging 40.0 rebounds a game and 7.3 steals a game.
Season Results
The Falcons lost to Utah Valley (8-0) in the championship game of the 2007 Air Force Classic, 78-68. Findlay and Steele were named to the all-tournament team for the Falcons. USAF got back on the winning track Tuesday with a 56-53 victory over Northern Colorado. Other wins include a 65-56 victory over Denver, a 68-60 win at Army, and an 85-84 overtime win at Hampton. The Falcons lost an over time game at St. Francis, 63-62.
Head Coach Ardie McInelly
Ardie McInelly enters her seventh season at the helm of the Air Force women's basketball program. In her first six years with the Falcons, McInelly has become Air Force 's winningest coach at the Division I level. She has an overall record of 117-191 in 11 years and has tallied a 41-129 record in six years at the Academy.
Although finishing with a 6-23 record last season, the Falcons played their best basketball late, topping Colorado State in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference.
Prior to arriving at the Air Force in 2001, McInelly spent five years as head coach at Idaho State, where she was recognized by her peers as the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year award in her final two seasons (1999-00 and 2000-01).
McInelly graduated from Boise State in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. She went on to earn her master's degree in education from Weber State in 1995.
The Series
Wisconsin and Air Force have met just once to open both their seasons on Nov. 10, 2006. The Badgers won on the road in Colorado Springs, 91-58. Janese Banks had a career-high 28 points hitting 9-of-13 from the field including 3-of-4 3-pointers. Jolene Anderson had 23 points and tied her career high with five 3-pointers (of seven). Altogether the Badgers hit 10-of-14 3-pointers for 71.4 percent.
