February 13, 2007 | Women's Hockey
Senior Sara Bauer was named the USCHO National Offensive Player of the Week and the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 12, both organizations announced on Tuesday.
The St. Catharines, Ontario native demonstrated why she was the 2006 Patty Kazmaier Award winner during a weekend sweep of No. 9 Ohio State Feb. 9 and 11 at the Kohl Center, recording points on six of Wisconsin's eight goals during the 5-2 and 3-2 victories.
Last Friday, Bauer scored two goals, including one shorthanded, to knot the game after Ohio State had jumped out to a 2-0 lead. With her second goal, Bauer became just the seventh player in NCAA history to reach 200 career points. She then went on to add an assist on the game-winning goal.
In the series finale on Sunday, Bauer had assists on Wisconsin's first two goals and then scored her fifth game-winning goal of the season.
Bauer now has 58 points this season, ranking second in the nation and matching her career best. She leads the country with 37 assists and ranks 11th with 21 goals.
The national weekly award is the fifth of Bauer's career and first this season. Bauer was named the WCHA Player of the Week twice earlier this season, on Dec. 4 and Jan. 29. She has now earned nine total WCHA weekly awards in her career, two more than any other player in UW history.
