
Four Badgers Earn Academic All-District Honors

University of Wisconsin athletes Jess Bartelt (women's rowing), Sara Bauer (women's hockey), Susan Johnson (women's swimming) and Nolan Polley (men 's tennis) have been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V At-Large teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Bartelt (Jackson, Wis.) serves as the coxswain of the varsity eight boat for the women 's openweight rowing team, which is currently ranked No. 20 in the country. The senior biology major with a 3.45 GPA was a first-team All-Big Ten selection this season as well as a two-time academic All-Big Ten honoree while serving as the team captain.
Bauer (St. Catharines, Ontario) recently finished her career with the UW women 's hockey team by setting 17 single-season and career school records. A senior kinesiology major with a 3.97 GPA, Bauer was named the 2007 Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player after leading the Badgers to their second straight NCAA title. Last year, Bauer was named the At-Large Academic All-American of the Year after winning the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as national player of the year.
Johnson (Toledo, Ohio) concluded her UW swimming career as a five-time All-American and 10-time honorable mention All-American, including three honorable mention laurels this season. A senior Human Development and Family Studies major with a minor in Zoology and a 3.67 GPA, Johnson owns UW's school record in the 100 and 200-backstroke, the 200 and 400 medley relays, as well as a Big Ten record in 200-medley relay.
Polley (Lexington, Ky.) completed the season with an overall singles record of 18-14 as the Badgers reached the NCAA championship for the first time since 1998. A junior mechanical engineering major with a GPA of 3.88, Polley was ranked as high as No. 74 in singles this season as well as No. 23 with doubles partner Moritz Baumann.
Bauer and Johnson each earned spots on the all-district first team, meaning both will be eligible to earn Academic All-America status. Bartelt and Polley each received second-team honors.
CoSIDA selects Academic All-District and All-America teams for 10 sports as well as a men's and women's at-large team for all other sports.
