Hinners Earns Madison Women's City Championship Title
June 21, 2007 | Women's Golf
Wisconsin women's golfer Heidi Hinners captured her first title Wednesday when she won the 50th Annual Madison Women's City Championship at the par-74 Maple Bluff Country Club in Madison.
Hinners shot 2-under par 72 in the tournament's first round and entered Wednesday tied for the lead. The Middleton, Wis., native began her second round with a double bogey on the first hole. After shooting another bogey on the fourth, Hinners settled down and hit a brilliant birdie shot 18 to finish the day with a 3-over par 77 and a five-stroke tournament victory.
Hinners, whose father once won the Men's City Championship and caddied for his daughter, was very ecstatic about the win. 'I am very excited and extremely happy to win my first title,' Hinners told the Wisconsin State Journal. 'Especially since I did it with my dad on my bag. This ties me with my dad at one championship apiece.'
Fellow Wisconsin golfer Kate Wierwill (Verona, Wis.) finished tied for eighth place with a 167 (93-74) while former Badger Jill Reis (Middleton, Wis.) shot a 164 (79-85) to finish seventh.
