Wisconsin Falls to BYU, 1-0
September 15, 2007 | Women's Soccer
The Wisconsin women's soccer team (2-2-1) fell to No. 17 Brigham Young University 1-0, Friday night at South Stadium. The Badgers were out-shot 14-to-1 in the loss to BYU, who has yet to lose a game this season.
Sophomores Whitney Owusu (Woodbury, Minn.) and Stephanie Krombach (Appleton, Wis.), were the only two Badgers to put shots-on-goal for the Badgers Friday night in front of a crowd of 2,574 people.
Junior Jamie Klages (Coronado, Calif), who has started all five games for the Badgers, recorded five saves in the match against BYU. BYU's netminder, Erika Woodbury, tallied her fifth victory of the season and fifth shutout.
Woodbury is just one of 13 keepers in the nation to not have allowed a goal this season.
In the first half the Badgers, who were playing without their leading scorer Taylor Walsh (Madison, Wis.) pressured the Cougar defense, but were unable to score. UW charted seven corner kicks in the first 45 minutes, compared to BYU's one.
In the second half, Wisconsin lost more control of the field, while the home team took over. BYU had a few close calls, but it was not until the 63rd minute that junior Katie Larkin (Draper, Utah) scored her third game-winning goal of the season after burying a left-footed goal from 25 yards out.
Wisconsin has Saturday off before taking on Northern Arizona University Sunday at 1 p.m. Fans can watch the game action here on Live Stats.
