September 19, 2007 | Women's Golf
The Wisconsin women's golf team travels east this weekend for the Lady Northern Invitational at University Park, Penn. The first two rounds begin with a shot-gun start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday on the par-72, 6,300-yard Penn State Blue Course. The final 18 holes are set to begin Sunday at 9 a.m.
Aside from Wisconsin, 13 other teams are slated for the Lady Northern Invitational and included in the mix are 10 Big Ten Conference schools. The teams competing include: Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, host-Penn State, Rollins, Toledo and Wisconsin.
Wisconsin had last weekend off from fall competition but kicked off the 2007 fall season the previous Sunday with the Badger Invitational. After heavy rain forced an early end to the invitational, the Badgers finished fifth out of 14 teams. Newcomer junior Natasha Lopez Moreira (Asuncion, Paraguay) fared the best of any UW golfer, finishing in a tie for seventh with a score of 149. Lopez Moreira comes to Wisconsin after transferring from the University of Richmond.
Sophomore Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) was not far behind with her tie for 13th place. She finished the invite with a 152 while senior Katie Elliot (Madison, Wis.) scored a 156 for a tie at 27th place.
