Panthers and Rain Too Much for Badgers
September 21, 2007 | Women's Soccer
The Wisconsin women's soccer team fell to in-state rival UW-Milwaukee 1-0 Friday night at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Wisconsin dropped to 3-3-1 for the season while non-conference foe Milwaukee improved to 4-3.
With only five minutes of play underway, inclement weather conditions forced a delay of game. Both teams took the field for the second time at 8:25 p.m., following 85 minutes of stoppage.
A relatively quiet first half ended in a 0-0 draw at the half. The Badgers recorded two corner kicks after 45 minutes of play, while the Panthers went into the break with one.
Less than two minutes into the second half, UW-Milwaukee sophomore forward Erin Kreuser scored the eventual game-winning goal. Kreuser buried the ball deep into the left end of the net beyond the reach of Badger goalkeeper Jamie Klages (Coronado, Calif.).
Klages recorded seven saves in ninety minutes of action, while Milwaukee netminder Erin Kane tallied three. Wisconsin was out-shot 10-to-5, putting only three shots-on-goal. Just five Badgers, including captain Katy Meuer (Madison, Wis.) and seniors Taylor Walsh (Madison, Wis.) and Shannon Terry (Long Lake, Minn.), attempted shots in the game.
Wisconsin still leads the all-time series against the Panthers 17-3-4. This is the second year in a row that Wisconsin lost to Milwaukee 0-1.
Next up, the Badgers take on Northern Iowa University Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Wisconsin's first weekday match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Sept. 28, the Badgers face their first conference rival of the 2007 season when the team travels to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on No. 22 Purdue.
