
UW Ties for Seventh at Lady Northern

The Wisconsin women's golf team traveled to University Park, Pa., this weekend for competition in the Lady Northern Invitational and finished in a tie for seventh. The Badgers scored a 924 (316-306-302) in three rounds of competition on the par-72, 6,300-yard Penn State Blue Course.
Six Wisconsin golfers competed and sophomore Beth Weinsten (Highland Park, Ill.) led the team with a tie for 14th place. In the first two rounds, Weinsten tallied a 76 in each and bettered her score by one stroke in the final round for an overall tally of 227. Weinsten also broke some personal bests. Her 14th place finish is the highest of her career and her three-round score of 227 is a career low. Her pervious best was a 242 at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational last season.
Junior Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) and senior Katie Elliot (Madison, Wis.) came in next for the Badgers in a tie for 29th. Both finished with an overall score of 233. Dahl tallied a 79 in the opening round and then an 80 in the second before finishing the invite with a 74 in the final round. Elliot opened the invite with an 80 and then bettered her scores and finished with a 75 and 78 in the second and third rounds, respectively.
Junior transfer Natasha Lopez-Moreira (Asuncion, Paraguay) competed in her second invite with the Badgers and finished tied for 36th with a 234 (81-76-77). Ten places behind her was sophomore Kelsey Verbeten. The Green Bay, Wis., native tied for 46th with a score of 236 (81-79-76).
Sophomore Heidi Hinners rounded out the Badger competitors in a tie for 71st. The Middleton, Wis., native scored an 82, 80 and 85 in the three rounds for a 247. Her overall tally also surpassed her pervious career low (for three rounds) of 256.
Kent State won the 14-team Lady Northern Invite with a score of 878 and was led by a first-place finish by Kira Meixner. She finished four under par for an overall score of 212 (66-73-73).
Wisconsin continues the fall season and hits the road again next weekend for the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
