September 27, 2007 | Women's Golf
The Wisconsin women's golf team heads to the Wolverine Invite this weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich. Competition takes place on the par-71, 6,098-yard U-M Golf Course and the first two rounds begin with an 8 a.m. shot-gun start Saturday, Sept. 29. The invite concludes Sunday with another 8 a.m. shot-gun start.
Aside from Wisconsin, Bradley, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, host-Michigan, Notre Dame, Southern Methodist, Toledo and Tulsa are scheduled for the invite. Wisconsin will play in group two along with SMU and Toledo during the first 36 holes.
Wisconsin heads into the Wolverine Invitational following a seventh-place finish at the Lady Northern Invitational last weekend in University Park, Pa. The Badgers had a final three-round score of 924 to tie with Eastern Michigan in the 14-team invite.
Sophomore Beth Weinsten (Highland Park, Ill.) led Wisconsin, finishing tied for 14th after a score of 227 (76-76-75). Weinsten broke many personal bests last weekend. Her 14th-place finish was the best of her career, her three-round score was a career low and her 18-hole score of 75 was another personal best.
Senior Katie Elliot (Madison, Wis.) and junior Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) tied for 29th with a score of 233 while junior Natasha Lopez Moreira (Asuncion, Paraguay) was the next Badger finisher at 36th place. Sophomore Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) also competed and finished tied for 46th at the Lady Northern.
Sophomore Heidi Hinners (Middleton, Wis.) also had a career day, scoring a personal best of 247. She finished tied for 71st overall.
The Wolverine Invite marks the mid-point of the fall season for the Badgers. After this weekend, the team has just two more invitationals on schedule. Stay tuned to uwbadgers.com for final scores from the Wolverine Invitational or follow live scoring at www.golfstat.com .
