The Hoosiers came out strong from the beginning, maintaining possession of the ball throughout most of the first half. Sophomore Kristin Arnold scored her fifth goal of the season at as she shot the ball high over Wisconsin keeper Jamie Klages (Coronado, Calif.) at the 16-minute mark of the game, giving the home team and early 1-0 lead.
Arnold struck again in the 23rd minute as she tallied an unassisted low shot beating Klages to the right post. Arnold's two goals left Wisconsin down 0-2 going into the break.
'I was disappointed with the way the team performed in the first half. We made two major mistakes allowing them to score on their first two chances,' head coach Paula Wilkins said.
Only two minutes into the second half, Wisconsin freshman Taryn Francel (San Diego, Calif.) took a header shot but was unable to find the back of the net. Wisconsin's next scoring opportunity came in the 61st minute as Krista Liskevych (Encinitas, Calif.) took a shot that sailed wide. The Badgers took nine more shots in the remaining minutes of play but were unable to capitalize. Wisconsin dominated the second half taking 11 shots compared to Indiana's four.
'We responded very well in the second half as the girls were playing much more aggressively. The whole team was more focused but we need a consistent performance for 90 minutes rather than just in spurts,' Wilkins added.
In 90 minutes of play, the Badgers had six corner kicks while the Hoosiers took three. Wisconsin ended the game with 12 shots compared to Indiana's nine. Klages tallied three saves during the game.
