
Badger vs. Hoosier match looks to be an underclassmen showdown

Up next for the University of Wisconsin women's soccer team (6-6-1) is a home contest against Indiana University, where the Badgers are looking for a win their first Big Ten conference win of the season. Both teams have very young rosters, as two of the top three scorers at both Indiana and Wisconsin are underclassmen. Last weekend, Wisconsin ' which has a 4-2-0 record at home ' went on a two-game road trip, losing to both Ohio State and No. 22 Penn State.

The Hoosiers are coming off a tough 1-0 overtime loss to Minnesota, which was the team 's fourth Big Ten conference game shutout loss in a row, all with a 1-0 score. Indiana is 2-4-0 both on the road and at their home site in Bloomington, Ind. As a team, the Hoosiers score an average 1.46 goals per game, and their opponents also have a 1.46 goal per game average against them ' but Indiana is a second-half team, as they have scored more goals, put up more shots, tallied more saves and taken more corner kicks in the second period than in the first all season. Liz Holby and Chloe McKay look to be the big offensive factors in Friday's matchup against the Badgers. They are Indiana 's leading scorers with Holby putting up four goals, on e assist and 19 shots so far this season, while McKay has three goals, three assists and 17 shots. Hoosier goalkeeper Lindsay Campbell, who has played in six games this season and started in four including last week's match against Minnesota, has four goals against her and 11 saves for a 0.85 goals against average.

Last weekend, the Badgers played their first Big Ten games on the road, traveling first to Ohio State to take on the Buckeyes and then to Penn State to play the No. 25 Nittany Lions. Wisconsin got shut out 4-0 at Ohio State and 3-0 at Penn State. Wisconsin goalkeeper Jamie Klages had 16 saves for the weekend, nine against Ohio State Friday night and seven on Sunday during the Penn State game. The Big Ten Network aired last Sunday's Penn State matchup, and it will be the only regular-season Badger women's soccer game shown on the network.

The teams in this week's matchup are some of the youngest in the Big Ten, and between Indiana and Wisconsin, there are 40 underclassmen on the rosters combined ' 23 freshmen ' compared to 15 upperclassmen.
Eleven of the Badgers' 22 goals this season and 30 of Wisconsin's 66 total points have come from freshmen, and freshman Laurie Nosbusch remains as the leading scorer with five goals, four assists and 25 shots on goal in 12 games.
Wisconsin freshmen put up seven of the nine total shots on goal for the Badgers last weekend against Penn State and Ohio State.
Wisconsin has had 74 corner kick opportunities so far this season, compared to only 47 combined among opponents.
The Badgers score an average 1.83 goals per game, and their opponents score 1.25 on average.
Thirteen of Wisconsin's 22 goals this season have come in the second period of their games.
