Practice Report No. 4: Merry Christmas
December 25, 2008 | Football
For those of you that don't remember the practice reports here on UWBadgers.com from fall camp, each day Brian Lucas and Rudy Nigl will bring fans inside the team's Champs Sports Bowl practices with an in-depth look at the day's work.
Breakdown: The last real practice for the team took place Christmas Day in Orlando. The Badgers practice in spiders and for the last time had a contact practice (the team will have a short walk-through on Friday). With the temperature reaching near 80 degrees for the second-straight day, a lot of water and Powerade was being consumed.
Not Perfect: For everyone back in Wisconsin that was getting sick and tired of hearing about how nice the weather has been, well it actually rained on Thursday. For about 25 minutes, the skies opened up and let down a pretty intense rain in the Orlando area.
Play of the Day (offense): The field goal unit was up against the clock as time was expiring to get on the field and connect on a `game-winning kick.' Kicker athid=6578&deptid=111"> --> Philip Welch showed he had ice in his veins as he booted the 35-yard field goal.
Play of the Day (defense): After the conclusion of practice, senior linemen Matt Shaughnessy and Jason Chapman took a couple laps around the field in one of the golf carts used to haul the blocking dummies pretending they were in the Christmas Day Parade (not much of a play, but a pretty funny moment).
Overheard: 'This isn't bad, it could be snowing on us.' ' Equipment manager Terry Schlatter as the rains came down during practice on Christmas Day.
Up Next: The team will partake in the Champs Sports Bowl kickoff luncheon Friday followed by its final walk-through of the season on the field at the Florida Citrus Sports Bowl.
