
Men's varsity eight "Best of 2008" by Rowing News

The accolades continue for the Wisconsin men's rowing team as the UW varsity eight was one of two boats named the best of 2008 by the Rowing News in the January issue. Wisconsin's sportid=117&storyid=14165"> --> national championship-winning crew shares the crew of the year honor with the U.S. under-23 men's eight, which included three members of UW's national championship boat, as well as a Badger coxswain.
The UW men's eight, with coxswain Adam Barhamand (Naperville, Ill.), twin brothers and sophomores Grant and Ross James (Dekalb, Ill.), senior Derek Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md.), junior Zach Krupp (New Canaan, Conn.), junior Ed Newman (Palos Park, Ill.), sophomore Max Goff (Sun Prairie, Wis.), junior George Walters (Philadelphia) and senior Joe McMullin (Woodbridge, Va.), completed a perfect season with an EARC conference title and the 2008 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship. The Badgers earned the school's first conference and national championship double in the same season. The national title was the school's first since 1990.
Coxswain Daniel Connolly (Rockville Center, N.Y.), Grant and Ross James and Rasmussen made up the stern of the U.S. under-23 men's eight that captured the 2008 FISA World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Germany. The boat won the final by 3.8 seconds over Canada for the largest margin of victory by an American eight all season.
It has been an award-filled autumn and winter for the Badgers. In addition to the Rowing News honor, the UW varsity eight was named crew of the year by voters at Row2k.com and the EARC Heavyweight Crew of the Year. Individually, head coach Chris Clark was named the EARC Heavyweight Coach of the Year, while Former Badger rower Micah Boyd was named USRowing's Athlete of the Year.
