
Badgers Bumped to Fifth After Third Round

After three rounds of competition at the 2008 Big Ten Championships, the University of Wisconsin women's golf team is tied for fifth. The Badgers shot a 304 in the third round on Saturday and are tied with Michigan with a combined score of 910. Wisconsin was in fourth after Friday and scored a 314 and 292 in the opening two rounds on the par-72, 6,271-yard Penn State Blue Course. Purdue still leads the 11 conference teams with an 872 (288-298-286).
After tying for seventh yesterday, sophomore Kelsey Verbeten and freshman Carly Werwie remain in the top 15. Verbeten leads the six Badger golfers and she scored a 76 in the third round and is now tied for ninth with a 225 (77-72-76). Her score of 225 is a new career low for three rounds and it is the second time this season the Green Bay, Wis., native broke her career record. Earlier this season, Verbeten set a new career low at the Rio Verde Invitational with a 226.
Werwie dropped into a tie for 12th place after scoring a 77 on Saturday and totaling 226 for three rounds (76-73-77).
Senior Katie Elliott is tied for 36th after shooting an 81 in the third round. She opened with an 80 and 73 and has a three-round total of 234. Junior Natasha Lopez is tied for 43rd with a 246 (82-74-79) and junior Isabel Alvarez is one stroke behind her and is in 45th (81-79-76=236).
Junior Jeana Dahl was the final Badger competitor and she had her best round of the tournament on Saturday by scoring a 75. She has a combined score of 239 (81-83-75).
