
Jager Crowned Junior National 1500-Meter Champion

Evan Jager was crowned the 1500-meter champion at the 2008 USA Track & Field Junior National Championships on Sunday. The sophomore-to-be on the University of Wisconsin men's track and field team won the event in 3 minutes, 47.43 seconds. Jager won the race by more than two seconds ahead of second-place finisher Nectaly Barbosa of Arizona State, who crossed in 3:49.44.
Jager, from Algonquin, Ill., followed up his eighth-place finish in the 1500 meters at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships with his junior national title. He earned All-America honors during the indoor and outdoor seasons as he was also a member of the third-place distance medley relay at the NCAA indoor championships.
On the Big Ten Conference level, Jager placed fifth in the outdoor 1500 meters and second in the indoor mile run, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors.
