Wilkins Pulls 21st Best Recruiting Class in the Nation
June 09, 2008 | Women's Soccer
Head soccer coach Paula Wilkins set a record high with one of the top recruiting classes in the nation. The 11-signees make up the 21st best recruiting class in the nation and the fourth in the Great Lakes Region.
'I am thrilled this is to be considered one of the best recruiting classes in Wisconsin history. We have several players that I feel will make an immediate impact on and off the field. This group of girls will bring different elements that will help our program get stronger technically, tactically and athletically. As in each recruiting class, we challenge the players to make an impact on and off the field within their four years and this is no different.'
In the region, only Notre Dame, Michigan and Michigan State ranked higher respectively.
The 2008 class is highlighted by forward Laurie Nosbusch, a Wisconsin native who was ranked 26th as the highest recruit in the class. Locally, the Badgers swept Wisconsin and Minnesota with the top recruits in each state including Nosbusch from Wisconsin. Krista Lundgren of Lakeville, Minn. who was ranked in the top-200 nationally. The three-time Minnesota All-state honoree was named Miss. Soccer-Minnesota and NSCAA HS All-America.
Paige Adams a midfielder from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia and Rita Keimakh of Thornhill, Ontario were not eligible for the rankings but were listed in the 2008 Top-20 International Recruits.
Two of the 11 recruits are participating on national teams throughout the summer. Adams is playing on Canada's women's U-20 national team while Nosbusch is representing the U-18 U.S. women's national team as a standout top scorer.
