
Badgers in 15th at Cougar Classic

With all five golfers registering rounds over-par on Monday, the University of Wisconsin women's golf team dropped from 11th place to 15th in the 22-team field after the second day of play at the Cougar Classic in Hanahan, S.C.
Ranked 66th in the country, the Badgers finished 19-over par for the day with a 307. For the tournament, the team is 32 strokes over-par and holds a score of 608 (301-307). Georgia is currently in first place at nine under-par with a 567.
Junior Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) retained her position as the top Badger golfer as she posted a three-over par score of 74. She is currently one stroke over-par with a 145, the best 36-hole performance of her career. Verbeten is tied for 19th place.
Senior Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) shot a three-over 75 one day after shooting a two-over par 74. She dropped from a tie for 27th place into a tie for 32nd place. She is five-over par with a 149.
Junior Heather Herrick (Hartland, Wis.) also slipped down the leaderboard. She fell from a tie for 67th into a tie for 74th after putting up a six-over 78 on Monday. She is 11-over par for the tournament with a 155 (77-78).
Four strokes behind Herrick is sophomore Carly Werwie (Kenosha, Wis.). Werwie recorded an eight-over 80 in the second round to drop down into a tie from 81st into 93rd. Overall, Werwie is 15-over par with a 159 (79-80).
Freshman Jessie Gerry (Madison, Wis.) is three strokes behind Werwie. After opening her collegiate career with an 80 in round one, Gerry followed it up with a 10-over 82 in round two. She is 18-over for the tournament with a 162.
