The Lady Northern Invitational was back into full swing at 7:30 a.m. Monday morning to finish rounds two and three after severe weather interrupted the second round on Sunday.
The rainy, wind-lashed tournament concluded Monday with Purdue winning the Lady Nothern with a 1-over-par 865, the second best collegiate team 54-hole record at University Ridge Golf Course. The record is 855, set by Arizona State at the NCAA Championship in 1998. Ohio State and Michigan State tied for second with 878, a score that ties the fourth best 54-hole team score at University Ridge.
The Badgers took sixth at their home course with a 908 (300-298-310).
Purdue's Maude-Aimee LeBlanc was the medalist with a 68-72-70--210. She looked like she may break the Ridge's 54-hole course record of 207 for a time, but a couple of late bogeys tied her for the second best mark. Fellow teammate Junthima Gulyanamitta finished just three strokes behind her, tallying a 3-under-par 213.
Aimee Neff of Michigan State, had the best score for round 2 with a 68 which tied the best scores for round 1 by Allie White of Ohio State, and Maude-Aimee LeBlanc of Purdue. Allie White's 36-hole total 139 ranked sixth best among women's collegiate scores at University Ridge Golf Course.
Other notable University Ridge team marks include Michigan State shooting a 280 in the second round, just three off the course record of 277 set by Arizona State in the 1998 NCAA Championship. Ohio State had a 283 for the third best score in the first round and Purdue tied the fourth best score with a 285 in Round 2.
For 36-holes Michigan State's 572 ranks second all-time, and Ohio State had a 574 which is third. Purdue tied the fourth best total with its 576.
Junior Carly Werwie (Kenosha, Wis.) clinched the top spot for the Badgers, tying for 14th overall. Werwie tied her all-time career record set at the 2009 Duramed Invitational, tallying a 223 (74-74-75). A few bogeys throughout each round kept Werwie from staying even par, but her ability to bounce back and find her groove throughout each round gave her a solid finish at the end of day two.
Molly Schemm (Ft. Atkinson, Wis.) helped pace the Badgers with a 227 (78-72-77). This was enough to tie her for 23rd overall. The senior stood out the most during the second round when she balanced out three bogeys with three birdies to give her an even-par 72.
Freshman Alyssa Elliott (Madison, Wis.) finished only two strokes behind Schemm with a score of 229 (74-76-79). Elliot performed best during the first 36-holes with eight birdies.
Sophomore Jessie Gerry (Madison, Wis.) tied for 30th with a 231 (76-76-79). Teammates senior Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman debut Lindsay Danielson (Osceloa, Wis.) tied for 52nd with a 237.
