
Dolgner, Mitchell, Maloney honored by Big Ten

MADISON, Wis. - Senior Brittney Dolgner earned honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference honors and freshman Alexis Mitchell was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team, the conference office announced. In addition, redshirt freshman Kelsey Maloney was named the UW's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.
Dolgner was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12. She earned two all-tournament honors this season, at the Notre Dame Invitational and Oregon State Challenge. A four-year starter for the Badgers, Dolgner played in all 29 matches this season, starting 25. The 6-0 outside hitter led the team with 3.19 kills per set, including a season-high 22 kills vs. Oregon State. She had double-figure kills in 18 matches and led the team in kills in 18 matches. Dolgner ranked second on the team with 2.56 digs per set, leading the team in digs in six matches. She had double-figure digs in 14 matches and had a double-double in a team-best 12 matches. The Waupun, Wis., native also added 0.15 service aces and 0.35 blocks per set.

Mitchell is the 11th Badger named to the rookie team since the award was begun in 1999. The 6-0 middle blocker played in 26 matches, starting 23. She averaged 1.76 kills per set, tallying double-figure kills in four matches. Mitchell had a career-high 15 kills vs. Purdue and led the team in kills in four matches. She led the team in total blocks with 64 (0.71/set), recording a career best nine blocks at Indiana. Mitchell was the Badgers' top blocker in 11 matches. She also had career bests of three digs in two matches and one service ace in two matches.
Maloney, a 6-3 middle blocker, played in 18 matches, starting seven. She led the team with a .276 hitting percentage and with 0.82 blocks per set. The Centreville, Va., native averaged 1.29 kills per set, including a career-high 10 kills vs. Purdue. She hit a career-best .483 (8-1-12) and added a career-high six digs vs. South Dakota. Maloney also had a career-best six blocks vs. Seattle.
