
Six Badgers named Academic All-Big Ten

MADISON, Wis. - Six members of the University of Wisconsin volleyball team have been named to the 2009-10 Academic All-Big Ten team, the Big Ten Conference office announced. In order to be named to the honor team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above and be a non-first year letterwinner.
Senior Caity DuPont picked up her third-straight Academic All-Big Ten honor. The 6-0 outside hitter played in 27 matches in her final season, starting 15 matches. She finished fifth on the team with 1.80 kills per set, tallying double-figure kills in six matches. The Muskego, Wis., native record career highs in hitting percentage and service aces this season, sharing the team lead for service aces per set. DuPont is majoring in interior design.
Junior Allison Wack picks up her second All-Big Ten honor. The 6-0 outside hitter played in all 29 matches in 2009, starting 20. She ranked second on the team with 2.30 kills per set. Wack also added 1.69 digs per set and set career highs in six categories this season. The Salem, Wis., native is majoring in elementary education.
Sophomores Janelle Gabrielsen, Elle Ohlander and Ashley Wiedmeyer as well as redshirt freshman Kelsey Maloney all earn their first academic honors.

The 6-0 Gabrielsen was one of only two players to play in all 110 sets this season. She started all 29 matches at setter, averaging 9.63 assists per set, which ranked eighth in the Big Ten. A native of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Gabrielsen ranked third on the team with 2.43 digs per set. She recorded career bests in three categories this season and was named to the 2009 InnTowner Invitational All-Tournament team. Gabrielsen is majoring in human development and family studies.
Maloney was named the UW's Big Ten Sportsmanship award winner this season. The 6-3 middle blocker played in 18 matches, starting seven. Maloney, a native of Centreville, Va., led the Badgers in hitting percentage at .276 and in blocks per set with 0.82. She is majoring in elementary education.
Ohlander, a 6-6 middle blocker, played in 27 matches, starting 22. She finished third on the team with 0.62 blocks per set. The Caledonia, Ill., native added 1.76 kills per set, tying her career best with 13 kills vs. Oregon State. She is majoring in elementary education.
Defensive specialist Wiedmeyer played in 17 matches in her first season as a Badger. She averaged 0.14 aces and 0.33 digs per set on the season. The West Bend, Wis., native had a career high of two service aces and four digs on the season. She is majoring in nursing.
