Wisconsin's 2007-08 men's hockey captain Davis Drewiske made his NHL debut Tuesday night for the Los Angeles Kings to become the 15th former Badger this season to skate in the NHL and the 64th member of the Badger family to play in the NHL all-time. Also joining Drewiske in the NHL for the first time for the 2008-09 season was former Badger assistant captain Andy Wozniewski, who played his first game for the St. Louis Blues. Wozniewski gave the Badgers 16 players in the NHL this year.
Drewiske, wearing No. 44, played 10:14 on 14 shifts and was credited with two blocked shots and a hit. Drewiske's Kings earned a 1-0 road victory over Brian Elliott and Dany Heatley's Ottawa Senators.
Elliott held the Kings scoreless until 17:21 of the third period, coming less than three minutes away from shuting out the Kings in regulation play.
Drewiske's debut last night made him the ninth Badger from the school 's 2005-06 NCAA championship team to play at least one game in the NHL, joining Adam Burish (Chicago), Jake Dowell (Chicago), Jack Skille (Chicago), Joe Pavelski (San Jose), Elliott (Ottawa), Tom Gilbert (Edmonton), Robbie Earl (Toronto) and Joe Piskula (Los Angeles) among that elite group.
Wozniewski, who has previously played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, recorded one hit in 6:44 of play over 11 shifts as the St. Louis Blues skated to a 4-2 road victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday night.
Wozniewski skated for the same team as his former Badger teammate Brad Winchester. Both were signed last summer by the Blues as free agents.
