
Badgers add two more for 2009-10

The Wisconsin women's hockey team welcomes two new faces to the 2009-10 squad. Stefanie McKeough, a defender from Carlsbad Springs, Ontario and Lauren Unser, a forward from West Salem, Wis. will join the Badger squad this fall. McKeough has signed a National Letter of Intent, while Unser has signed an acceptance of admissions.
McKeough (pronounced Mick-YO), a 5-7 left-handed defenseman, was a member of Canada 's 2008-09 National Women's Under-18 Team that won the silver medal at the 2009 IIHF World Women's U-18 Championships. Playing with 2009 Wisconsin recruits Saige Pacholok and Breann Frykas on Team Canada, McKeough contributed five assists as a defenseman. She has also recently been invited to participate in the women's under-22 strength and conditioning/skating camp to be held April 30-May 3 at Norma Bush Arena in Calgary. She will join current Badgers Mallory Deluce, Carolyne Prevost and Brittany Haverstock along with Pacholok and Frykas at the camp.
With a strong international background, McKeough also won a gold medal with Team Ontario Red at the 2008 National Women's Under-18 Championship in Napanee, Ontario. Beyond the international level, McKeough has captained and been named MVP of her high school team at St. Mark High School three straight years, while winning two city championships. In 2008 she won silver at OWHA provincials and at the PWHL championships with the Ottawa Capitals. Last season McKeough played in 40 games for the Ottawa Capitals scoring five goals and 11 assists for 16 points.
Unser, a 5-4 right-handed forward, joins the Badgers having played AAA hockey for the Madison Capitols throughout her high school career. She won three state championships and two regional championships while playing with the Capitols. Unser was selected to attend the USA Hockey National Development Camp three times and in the summer of 2008 she went to Finland to compete in the International Development Hockey Camp. A multi-sport athlete, Unser also competed in track and field and cross country, earning first team all-conference honors in each sport. Academically, Unser was a four-time Scholar Athlete and Honor Roll member.
McKeough and Unser will join four previously signed recruits that are listed below.
