Women's golf team stays active off the course
May 18, 2009 | Women's Golf
The UW women's golf team recently wrapped up the 2008-09 season but these Badgers have been plenty busy since the end of this year's competition. When they weren't on the course this year, members of the women's golf team did a number of community service and personal enhancement activities, enough to be awarded with the 2008-09 CHAMPS Cup.
The CHAMPs Cup is an all-sport competition and is awarded to two teams on campus, one men's and one women's athletic team, for those that exemplify all aspects of the student-athlete. Teams compete for points in the six categories of Academic Achievement, Athletic Achievement, Personal Enhancement, Community Outreach, Badger Pride and Student-Athlete Advisory Council participation. The women's golf team earned a lot of their points through working with the sportid=192&storyid=15165"> --> Light the Night and sportid=192&storyid=16919"> --> 'With Wings and a Halo' community service groups. The Badger golfers and members of the men's swimming & diving team were recognized at the Buckinghams as CHAMPS Cup winners.
After all the hard work throughout the year, the women's golf team rewarded itself recently with a trip to a Milwaukee Brewers game. The Badgers, who appear to be mostly Brewers fans except for one (see picture at the top), saw Milwaukee knock off the Chicago Cubs, 3-2 at Miller Park. Aside from the Brewers game, the team has stayed active with bowling, pizza parties and the Betty Lou Cruise.
