
Wisconsin XC takes top spots

The first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Cross Country Regional Rankings were released Monday and the Wisconsin Badgers found themselves atop the charts on both the men's and women's rankings for the Great Lakes Region.
The UW men's program won its seventh-straight regional championship last season, while the women's team finished as the regional runner-up in 2008. The USTFCCCA NCAA poll is scheduled to be released on Wednesday.

Behind Wisconsin in the men's poll are Butler, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame rounding out the top five. Indiana (6th), Michigan State (7th) and Purdue (13th) are the other Big Ten teams ranked among the top 15.
In the women's poll, Wisconsin is trailed by Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Indiana in the top five. Purdue (9th) and Ohio State (11th) were also among the top 15 teams receiving votes.
The Wisconsin men and women will put their No. 1 rankings to the test this Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Iona Meet of Champions in the Bronx, N.Y.
