Wisconsin Head Coach Pete Waite
Opening statement: “Well, unfortunately it was a disappointing showing for us tonight. We just didn’t come to play good volleyball and Indiana’s on track and doing some really nice things out there. I think our fans were fantastic, we had a big crowd out there, they were supportive the whole time and we appreciate that. But we have got to get some things fixed on our side of the net and improve quickly to have a shot at these matches.”
On going to his bench: “We prefer to have a group that’s really playing well, you don’t have too many changes except for just strategically. But we needed to try to get some different people in and try to give a different look on the court and a different feel out there. It just seemed like tonight, no matter what we tried it wasn’t working.”
On what’s next for the team: “You certainly can’t dwell on it. You’ve got to move forward and try to figure out some things, get back on track, because we have been playing some pretty good ball, and that’s the thing. We have been competitive, I know they can do it. So it’s really put this one behind us, it’s over, it doesn’t make any difference, it’s time to move on.”
Kim Kuzma on the Indiana block: “I feel like we weren’t being very smart with our shots. We were hitting a lot really low into the net, right into their middle blockers that are good blockers. They had a big block up there, kudos to them, they were closing the block pretty much every time, which is hard to hit around in the Big Ten. But we have to be smart about it, we have to hit shots, we have to go after their hands. We have to hit shots that maybe we aren’t used to hitting all the time. If they are bringing something then we have to change and I don’t think that we did a good job of doing that.”
Kim Kuzma on Indiana’s tough serving: “Honestly I don’t think we passed that badly. There was once, I know, in the second game I had a run at the end where I didn’t pass very well. But all in all, the eight aces, I think there were spurts where we had bad passing, but there were also spurts where we had really good passing but we weren’t doing anything.”
Jessa Benson on change from 6-2 to 5-1 formation: ”I think initially in the first two sets we were in the 6-2 and it worked during practice, and it worked last week. It’s always good to try something new and I think that after we dropped the first two sets, we needed to try something new again and that’s the challenge of the coaching staff and the challenge of us girls to adjust and figure things out on the court. We just didn’t adjust well to what Indiana was throwing at us. That is what the main thing was. It really had nothing to do with the lineup that was on our side.
