MADISON, Wis. – Allison Wack, a senior on the University of Wisconsin volleyball team, has been named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. She earns her first player of the week honor and she is the first Badgers since the 2007 season to earn the honor.
“Allison really deserves this award,” said UW Coach Pete Waite. “She played very well all weekend and she has improved both her offensive and defensive numbers.”
The 6-foot outside hitter put together back-to-back 20-plus kill matches for the first time in her career. Wack hammered down a career-high 25 kills in a 3-2 win over Iowa last Friday, the second-highest single-match total in the Big Ten this season. The Salem, Wis., native had five kills in the decisive fifth set. Wack also tied her career best with 17 digs while hitting .378 and adding two aces vs. the Hawkeyes.
Against Minnesota, Wack had 21 kills, including seven in a third-set win, and again tied her career digs with 17.
On the weekend, she averaged 5.11 kills per set while hitting .327. She also added 3.78 digs per set. Wack chipped in 0.22 aces and 0.11 blocks per set while averaging 5.39 points per set.
The Badgers (13-8 overall, 2-8 Big Ten) return home this weekend to open the second half of Big Ten play. Wisconsin hosts Michigan State (11-10, 3-7) on Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 13 Michigan on Saturday at 7 p.m. Both matches are in the UW Field House.
